Maha Shihadeh Visits from Palestine

When Maha Shihadeh Rontissi visited Illinois in June she brought greetings to the Annual Meeting of the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ. She is the president of the Ramallah, Palestine, YWCA and currently works as Public Relations Director for the Ramallah Municipality. She also serves as a consultant to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO.) She spoke briefly about the complexity of every day life in the West Bank, hampered by the separation barrier, checkpoints and travel permits, along with economic and political instability.

She asked that the gathered delegates and visitors become more familiar with the issues involving the Christians, Muslims and Jews who live in Palestine and Israel. The Rev. Phil Hart, Interim Conference Minister, offered a prayer giving thanks for Maha and her witness and for all who work on a just peace in the Middle East. Before she left she stopped by the Global Ministries display for pictures.

Global Ministries invited Maha and several other women from our mission partners to attend the Quadrennial Assembly of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Greensboro, North Carolina. Prior to this Assembly, the women visited different regions across the United States, speaking in churches and to small groups.
